Workshop Name:

Community Based Practice - Working with Clients to Reach Their Potential

Convener:

Prof. Dr. Hartwig Künzel, Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics, German

Prof. Meng-Chieh, Jeffrey Lee, National Taichung University of Science and Technology, Taiwan

Time:

Workshop I / September 2nd (Sat.) 09:30-15:00

About the Workshop:

Indoor materials like furniture, decoration material and others are manufactured and sold worldwide, and in many countries there exists quality marks to assess their impact on indoor air quality (even some legal requirements are established or on the way), and sometimes also prescribed methods for the determination of emissions. Contrary to many efforts of harmonization of these methods, their number is rather increasing than declining. This workshop presents recent developments of indoor product testing methods in different countries, and scrutinizes difference and similarities in regard to the comparability of results.

This workshop addresses the fragmenting field of product emission testing. Although several ISO-standards exist, more and more countries develop their own test methods, schemes, and evaluation procedures, which lead to a lack of clarity in all involved parties (manufacturers, traders, test laboratories, customers). It is the aim of this workshop to find out what a generally accepted procedure could be, which parts could be kept flexible and which not, and how a better comparability of test results could be achieved. Communicating the results to the stakeholders will then be the next step, which could lead to reduced number of incompatible tests, and to more clarity in labelling of products.

The workshop is divided into two parts:

1. Oral presentations

Topic Speaker
Moisture troubles in the building in Taiwan Prof. Meng-Chieh, Jeffrey Lee

Hygrothermal fundamentals and loads.

Interpretation and evaluation of simulation results

Prof. Dr. Hartwig Künzel
Design with moisture buffering materials in hot and humid climate Prof. Tsay Yaw-Shyan

2. Demonstration of the software and discussion of application cases by Mr. Christoph Mitterer, Chief Engineer

Workshop Name:

Innovation of Low Energy Building around Subtropical Area.

Convener:

Prof. Dr. Meng-Chieh, Jeffrey Lee, National Taichung University of Science and Technology, Taiwan
Prof. Dr. Yen-Yi Li, Sue-Te University, Taiwan

Time:

Workshop III / September 4th (Mon.) 15:45-18:00

About the Workshop:

Buildings located in Subtropical area bear the strong solar irradiation; it causes the hot environment to impact the human health. Designing a suitable building faces the climate impacts with air- conditioner is the way in the past 50 years in subtropical area. But it is consumes much energy to cool the indoor environment and also causes the urban heat island effect. Designing a low energy building with passive design idea is the solution for energy saving, but the thermal comfort and indoor air quality is also the challenges in these buildings. If the building locates in hot and humid area, the trouble should be higher. Therefore, this workshop focuses on this issue to find some solutions from different sights to submit the ideas for the researches in the coming future.

The workshop is divided into two parts:

1. Short oral presentations

2. Discussion with the innovation ideas in Low Energy Building around subtropical area

Forum Name:

Indoor Air Quality Industry Development Forum for Taiwan, Mainland and Hong Kong

Convener:

Mr. Devin Jeng, Honorary President, Taiwan Indoor Environment Quality Management Association

Time:

兩岸三地室內空氣品質產業論壇 / September 4th (Mon.) 14:15-18:00

About the Forum:

This activity aims at organizing the first indoor air quality industry development forum for Taiwan, Mainland and Hong Kong. A memorandum has been signed by three sides in Shanghai on March 31th, 2015. Ongoing and in-depth discussions will continue to proceed; various opinions will be collected among government, academy, and industry. It is expected that cooperation items of three sides will be concreted and prioritized in order to start implementing step by step. Thus this greater China forum will laid a solid foundation to further develop; establishing a healthy market order; promoting indoor air quality industry; and maintaining people health.
